Thank You For the Support :)
My Recent Book Launch
On August 11th my second book, Overpour was published. Upon my announcement I have received an immense amount of support from my friends and family. If any of you are reading this, then I just want to say: THANK YOU!!
Each and every single message, like, comment, and share means the world to me. It is such a blessing to know that you have a community that is ready to support your endeavors.
What this means to me
Since I have become a self-proclaimed author and started writing books I have faced doubts and imposter syndrome. I still don’t know if I classify as a “real author” but if not, then I don’t know what else would make me one. Sure, I’m not traditionally but rather self-published, but that doesn’t change my art or what fact of what I do.
August 11th was the first day that this started to feel real to me. Knowing that someone reads your work has to be the best feeling as an author. After all, I don’t write so that it disappears into the void. I believe that my words mean something and having that affirmed by those that I care about is such a special feeling.
It reminded me that I am not doing this for nothing, and that growth can truly happen. After months of no interactions on my posts, miniscule views on my website, and no chatter of my work I had times where I questioned what I was doing. That stopped though, when I reminded myself that I write because I love to, not for views or affirmation. I write because it’s what I feel called to right now in life, not so that others will give me praise. As for as I’m concerned, I write for an audience of one. If others enjoy my work on the way then that’s great. If not, then at least I will still continue to be true to myself and won’t be dictated by metrics or interactions.
My Part to Play
Now, you could easily say that support was always waiting for me but I had not really put myself out there. Sure, I posted on Instagram quite a bit and told a few people but I tried to keep it relaxed and didn’t want to sound like I was selling something. This can backfire, though, because posts are bound to get lost in the algorithm and how else will people know what I am working on if I don’t tell them? Being self-published means that I am my own marketing and PR team. Nobody else is going to do the work for me. This is something that I am still navigating if I’m being honest. I like to try and be as humble as possible but sometimes I feel like that can turn into downplaying what God has put on my heart, and I don’t want to do that. I want to be confident in my work and proud of what I do. I just want it to feel natural to bring up in conversation and I understand that there are plenty of more important things in life than my writing career.
To Conclude
I just want to say thank you again to anyone who took the time to read this and to support any of my work. Even if you don’t buy one of my books, your presence matters a lot to me. I’m proud to be an author and I’m so excited for what’s to come.
